Time To Unwind For A Not So Happy Homemaker …

A Happy Saturday to you, dear friends :D

What better way to unwind from a busy schedule or destress than listening to our favourite songs, especially retro songs that bring back fond memories…..just let go and tune out whatever is happening out there, …. relax and enjoy the music.

This week, the Malaysians got hit by 2 pieces of bad news – a 41 % immediate increase in the price of petrol and a 18 % hike in electricity tariffs starting on the 1st of next month. Needless to say, these will trigger a chain reaction in everything getting more expensive soon. In fact, the transportation companies for goods are already asking for a 40 % to 60 % increase in their charges. Just do a simple math calculation and we get a pretty grim picture of things to come.

As a homemaker who oversees the household/utilities, family and food expenses, this means I will have to be more frugal to adjust to the higher cost of living, while making sure that my family can still have a happy, comfortable and healthy lifestyle. Sigh….I am not happy this week and so are most Malaysians … never mind, it’s time for me to switch off these problems just for a short while, relax, listen to some of my favourite retro songs and things will surely seem brighter tomorrow ….

1985 – Billy Ocean – Caribbean Queen

1985 – Stevie Wonder – Part Time Lover

1987 – Bon Jovi – Livin’ On Prayer

1984 – Rockwell – Somebody’s Watching Me

1986 – Wang Chung – Everybody Have Fun Tonight

1984 – Daryl Hall & John Oates – Out Of Touch

1979 – Electric Light Orchestra – Last Train To London

1979 – Kool And The Gang – Ladies’ Night

Good Night and Sweet Dreams! :D

A Lil’ Boogie Oogie Oogie…

Ahhh….it’s sheer joy going down memory lane and remembering those days when I was a teenager! It’s been a really hot day today and being the weekend, listening to my favourite retro songs is a wonderful way to relax and be happy! This is a really sexy song released in 1978 by the group, A Taste of Honey. It’s amazing how many songs from that era contain the slang, “boogie.”

I also love “That 70’s Show” sitcoms which are simply hilarious ……. and so 70’s-ish!

Here are some bloopers from “That 70’s Show”.

….and while we are still laughing, here is a really zany Japanese game show …

She’s A Lady

Good evening, dear friends :D

I was driving my kids to school early this morning, when the DJs of a radio station played this old song. It was funny that they mentioned Tom Jones was really popular in those days and had a lot of ladies throwing their lingerie at him!

This song came out around 1974 and back in those days, we didn’t really have much entertainment – we were watching very few TV programmes that were shown in black and white (colour TV only started appearing around 1978 or 1979 in Malaysia), and so,  people would tune in to the radio most of the time.

For those of you who are in the 40’s, this song will bring you down memory lane………. enjoy….

Don’t Worry, Be Happy

Good morning, dear friends :D

Life comes with its ups and downs. It is really easy to enjoy the good times that we have, but it is when we are down with problems in wealth, health, at work or relationships, that we find it very tough to go through life.

However, it is the successful dealing with these problems that makes us stronger and stronger. I know, this is easier said than done, for it is when we are right smack in the middle of whatever problems that we may be facing, that we often experience utter despair and misery.

But….we can still help ourselves by gathering a little bit of strength here and there, just enough to motivate us to go through life one step at a time…instead of being stuck in a rut with our problems.

Here is something that I had read from a healing site, and I find that it makes a lot of sense…..

Two Days We Should Not Worry

There are two days in every week about which we should not worry,
two days which should be kept free from fear and apprehension.

One of these days is Yesterday with all its mistakes and cares,
its faults and blunders, its aches and pains.

Yesterday has passed forever beyond our control.
All the money in the world cannot bring back Yesterday.
We cannot undo a single act we performed; we cannot erase a single word we said.

Yesterday is gone forever.

The other day we should not worry about is Tomorrow with all its possible adversities, its burdens, its large promise and its poor performance;

Tomorrow is also beyond our immediate control.

Tomorrow’s sun will rise,
either in splendour or behind a mask of clouds, but it will rise.

Until it does, we have no stake in Tomorrow,
for it is yet to be born.
This leaves only one day, Today.

Any person can fight the battle of just one day.
It is when you and I add the burdens of those two awful eternities
Yesterday and Tomorrow that we break down.

It is not the experience of Today that drives a person mad,
it is the remorse or bitterness of something which happened Yesterday
and the dread of what Tomorrow may bring.

Let us, therefore, live but one day at a time.

Coincidentally, I heard this song on the radio while I was driving my daughter to work this morning – this simple song called “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” by Bobby McFerrin was a big hit back in 1988 and it was the first a capella song to make it to number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Ijust love this song because the advice in it is so comforting and I like to be told to not worry and just be happy about life.

This song is dedicated to my dearest friend from Romania, Rose, who is now recovering from a stroke and has just been discharged from the hospital.

Here are the meaningful lyrics -

Don’t Worry, Be Happy
From the Movie “Cocktails”
Performed by Bobby McFerrin

Here is a little song I wrote
You might want to sing it note for note
Don’t worry be happy

In every life we have some trouble
When you worry you make it double
Don’t worry, be happy
……

Ain’t got no place to lay your head
Somebody came and took your bed

Don’t worry, be happy

The landlord say your rent is late
He may have to litigate
Don’t worry, be happy
Look at me I am happy
Don’t worry, be happy

Here I give you my phone number
When you worry call me
I make you happy
Don’t worry, be happy

Ain’t got no cash, ain’t got no style
Ain’t got not girl to make you smile
But don’t worry be happy

Cause when you worry
Your face will frown
And that will bring everybody down
So don’t worry, be happy (now)…..

There is this little song I wrote
I hope you learn it note for note
Like good little children
Don’t worry, be happy

Listen to what I say
In your life expect some trouble
But when you worry
You make it double
Don’t worry, be happy……

Don’t worry don’t do it, be happy
Put a smile on your face
Don’t bring everybody down like this
Don’t worry, it will soon pass
Whatever it is
Don’t worry, be happy

With love, peace and joy,

choesf :D

Disco Fever & Boogie Nights!

Good evening, dear friends :D

Hehe….. during these 2 days, my mind has not been on cooking and recipes, but more on going down memory lane to the 70’s! Wow, being a teenager then was really fun with all the songs from that disco era. Remember the rotating glass disco ball hanging from the above in the discos? Looking back now, I realise that the cool words then were “disco”, “boogie”, “funky”, “shake your booty” and a few more that I can’t remember.

Here’s another two of my favourites – usually, when my chores get all boring and I need some motivation to get going…. I’ll put on my retro CD’s to get the mood going happy! I had earlier written something about this – please READ HERE …. and… READ HERE

I now dedicate the songs below to you (the first one has been remixed, though) – hope you enjoy them ….. :D

Good night and sweet dreams from KL! :D

A Beautiful Retro 70’s Song To Share With Your Loved One

Good afternoon, dear friends :D If you are in your 40’s like me, then you would probably remember this song being popular back in the 1970’s and it will bring back many memories to you. I have always like this song but have never really known its title nor singer but I was so happy to hear it over the radio one day and the DJ then mentioned the song name. Do listen to the song and read its lyrics below, and I highly recommend your dedicating or sending this video and lyrics to your spouse or boy/girlfriend as it has so much meaning – hehe, I had just emailed it to my husband, who would surely be surprised to receive this at work and he is now probably wondering what’s gotten over me and had me going all mushy with love suddenly!

It’s such a beautiful song, plus the video is quite amusing, too! Go on….try it and see

Have a lovely day today! :D

- Lovely Day by Bill Withers – released in 1977

Here are the lyrics -

When I wake up in the morning
love
and the sun light hurts my eyes
And something without worning
love
bears heavy on my mind.
Then I look at you and the world’s alright with me
Just one look at you and I know it’s gonna be -

A lovely day – lovely day
lovely day
lovely day
lovely day

Lovely day
lovely day
lovely day
lovely day.
A lovely day – lovely day
lovely day
lovely day
lovely day

Lovely day
lovely day
lovely day
lovely day.

When the day that lies ahead of me seems impossible to face

And someone else instead of me always seems to know the way
Then I look at you and the world’s alright with me

Just one look at you and I know it’s gonna be -

A lovely day – lovely day
lovely day
lovely day
lovely day

When the day that lies ahead of me seems impossible to face

A lovely day – lovely day
lovely day
lovely day
lovely day
